Boon Island Light Station in York, Maine: Buy An Island For The Price of a Used Car!

The Boon Island Light Station is now currently available for online auction and is awaiting your bid! Located on a small islet off the southern coast of York, Maine, this lighthouse was originally constructed way back in 1855. The 133 foot tower has a tapered design and is constructed from ashlar granite that’s punctuated by two vertical rows of seven windows. Inside the tower you’ll find a circular stairway that leads all the way up to a door at the parapet. There is also a small shed located on the property which was probably once used as a boathouse, but today sits in ruins. The islet is situated 14 feet above sea level and is quite close to the mainland. The current asking price for this auction is just $5,000 with no bids as of yet! Butler Flats Lighthouse: Be the Proud Owner of a Piece of Maritime History!

MAlighthouseGoing up for online auction in just a few short weeks is something you just don’t see everyday. The auction is for the Butler Flats Lighthouse, located in the New Bedford Channel at the mouth of the Acushnet River in Bristol County, Massachusetts. Capable of being reached only by boat, this lighthouse was originally designed by Francis Hopkinson Smith and constructed in 1898. It consists of a 53 foot high brick and cast iron sparkplug-style tower that sits upon a caisson foundation. Once inside, you’ll find four level sand two watch decks, as well as a basement and three floors of living space (1091 square feet of living space in total) that are approximately 37 feet in diameter with a 15 foot head clearance. You probably don’t know this, but this famous lighthouse is even listed in the National Register of Historic Places!
